Ahead of ITMA 2019 in Barcelona this June, a Swedish company Texo AB has reported a surge in demand for its specialised weaving machines for the production of paper machine clothing (PMC). “Rather surprisingly, given that China is now by far our biggest single market and the paper manufacturing industry has been gradually consolidating in Asia, we currently have new orders from both long-established North American and European customers,” said Texo President Anders Svensson.

The Nigerian Government recently signed in Marrakesh an agreement with the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) Group for a $523,823 technical assistance grant for capacity building and logistics upgrade of the Hajj Commission and for improving the cotton, textile and garment value chain in the country. The 44th annual meeting of the IsDB was held in Morocco.

Bangladesh has approved Tk 90.6 million for a project to manufacture biodegradable jute bags, popularly called Sonali bags, and conduct advance research on the environment-friendly product. The Bangladesh Climate Change Trust Fund, formed under the ministry of environment, forest and climate change in 2010, allocated the amount at a recent meeting.

India’s annual rate of inflation, based on monthly wholesale price index (WPI), stood at 3.18 per cent for the month of March 2019. The index for textiles fell by 0.3 per cent while for apparel it declined by 0.9 per cent in March, according to the provisional data released by the Office of the Economic Adviser, ministry of commerce and industry.

However, the Australian Wool Exchange (AWEX) Eastern Market Indicator (EMI) lost 7ac or 0.36 per cent to close at 1937ac clean/kg.
