Pakistan witnessed growth in towel exports by 15.78 percent during month of March, 2017 as compared the exports of the corresponding month of the last year. However, during first three quarters of current financial year exports of the towel from the country decreased by 3.18 percent as was recorded at 132,723 metric tons.

Demand for US cotton was revised upwards in April relative to March, thanks to stronger-than-expected exports. Predicted cotton exports from August to July 2016/17 were revised upwards by the United States Department of Agriculture to 14 million 480lb bales from 13.2 million 480lb bales estimated in March. Demand from the domestic market remained at 3.34 million 480lb bales.

Hinting that the textile industry is expected to have an uniform GST rate, Union Textile Minister Smriti Irani on Friday said that a conference will be held soon to decide on the issue.
Responding to pleas at a meeting of textile industries associations and stakeholders here, for fixing five per cent GST rate, the lowest slab for the industry, Irani assured that there would be neutrality in the rate.
