Trading on the cotton market improved as needy spinners rushed back to replenish their stocks on Tuesday. However, buying pattern was more of short-term covering than building up of stocks.
Market sources said that as the current season is drawing to a close, spinners are engaged in short-term requirements. The reports of better off-take in cotton yarn market also induced sentiment, brokers said.

Five years into talks for a free trade agreement (FTA) with Australia, India wants zero duty on textiles, automobile parts and fresh fruit. On its part, Australia is seeking tariff reduction in dairy products, fresh fruit, pharmaceuticals and wines.
Commerce Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said on Monday that negotiations on FTA are progressing substantially and the two countries are probably “close to a deal”. Her comments came at a CII event in New Delhi.
