The government has banned exports of all types of raw jute for an indefinite period, according to an order issued by the textiles and jute ministry yesterday.
The decision has been taken to meet the country's additional demand for jute in implementing the mandatory jute packaging law, Mirza Azam, state minister for textiles and jute, told The Daily Star.
Earlier, the government had imposed a similar ban for a month, starting on November 3.

India's total cotton output in the country is estimated to be 370.50 lakh bales for the 2015-16 season which began on October 1, the CottonAssociation of India (CAI) has said.
In a press release, it said the figure is same as the October estimate of 370.50 lakh bales (of 170 kg each). Tthe estimate is lower by 12.25 lakh bales than the output of 382.75 lakh bales for the cotton season 2014-15, it said.

Pakistan local textile industry badly affected by the surge in import of man-made fibre (MMF) yarns, including polyester, acrylic and fabric, in the domestic commerce. The import of MMF yarns has surged to 72,300 tonnes in 2014-15 against 47,700 tonnes in 2012-13.
