Apparel exports to the European Union (EU) countries surged by 25.18 percent in value and 26.17 percent in volume during January to June 2014 as the country netted export worth 865.962 million Euro, industry officials said on Monday.
Though Pakistan posted highest growth in apparel exports to the EU during January-June 2014 compared with all other major exporters, it’s per kg value at 10.66 Euro for garments and knitwear remained lowest amongst its major competitors, they added.

The fire at a garment factory in Dhaka’s Mirpur has been doused after an hour-long effort.
Smoke was seen coming out of the five-storey building that houses factory ‘Cordial Design’ around 5:30pm Sunday, Fire Service and Civil Defence Control Room official Brojen Sarkar said.
The unit is located on the third floor.
Thirteen fire engines fought for more than an hour to extinguish the blaze, he said.

The Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, has received several applications in connection to new textile parks, which would be set up at the earliest, Minister of State for Textiles Santosh Kumar Gangwar has said.

Apparel industry has grown by 9.15 points in April-June quarter of the current year as per Apparel Index prepared by the Clothing Manufacturers Association of India (CMAI).
