Three large Dutch clothing manufacturers – CandA, G-Star and Cars – have signed up to an international agreement to improve safety in Bangladesh factories, RTL news reports.
Zara and HandM are among the international brands that have also agreed to support the initiative.
The aim is to improve the safety of people working in the textile sector following last month’s building collapse in which over 1,100 workers were killed.

Garment workers have increased their demands for higher wages in Bangladesh
Many Bangladeshi textile factories near the capital, Dhaka, have shut because of unrest sparked by the collapse of a factory building last month, the country's textile association has said.
Owners made the decision on safety grounds after many workers went on a rampage, the group's president said.

For the first time, Pakistan has become the biggest importer of man-made fabric (MMF) from Surat, surpassing even the US and Saudi Arabia. The textile ministry's figures show that man-made fabric and yarn export to Pakistan increased by 30 per cent in 2012-13 and touched Rs 21 crore, as compared to Rs 16 crore in the previous year. The exports to US and Saudi Arabia, in fact, fell year-over-year.
